Specifications:

  1. Mechanical Couplings
                      Each mechanical coupling shall be supplied with a sleeve, rubber gaskets, flanges, bolts and nuts. The coupling, when assembled, shall be able to withstand a hydrostatic pressure of at least 20 kg/cm2 for duration of not less than 5 seconds without any leakage (Design working pressure shall be 10 kg/cm2). The mechanical coupling shall be of spherical-sleeve type, designed to provide a minimum deflection angle in every direction of not less than 2.0 degrees for pipe 1500 mm. in diameter and smaller, and 1 degree for pipe 1800 mm. in diameter. The tolerance on the length of the sleeve shall be ± 5 mm. The type and grade of steel conforming to JIS G 3457 “Arc Welded Carbon Steel Pipes” or JIS G 3101 "Hot Rolled Steels for General Structures", Class SS 400 to be used in fabrication of sleeve and flange shall be the same as that of steel pipe.  All interior and exterior ferrous surfaces of mechanical couplings shall be coated with liquid epoxy (containing no coal tar), as specified of MWA. The total dry film thickness shall not be less than 406 microns.

  2. Expansions Joint
                      Each expansion joint shall be supplied with a sleeve, rubber gaskets, gland flanges, bolts and nuts.  When assembled, shall be able to withstand a hydrostatic pressure of at least 20 kg/cm2 for duration of not less than 5 seconds without any leakage (Design working pressure shall be 10 kg/cm2).  The type and grade of material to be used in cast iron conforming to ASTM A126 grade FC-20 or equivalent.  All exterior ferrous surfaces shall be coated with non-bleeding coal tar epoxy and all interior ferrous surfaces shall be coated with liquid epoxy (containing no coal tar), as specified of MWA. The total dry film thickness shall not be less than 200 microns.

  3. Dismantling Joint
                      Each dismantling joint shall be supplied with a sleeve, rubber gaskets, gland flanges, bolts and nuts.  When assembled, shall be able to withstand a hydrostatic pressure of at least 24 kg/cm2 for duration of not less than 5 minutes without any leakage (Design working pressure shall be 16 kg/cm2). The type and grade of material to be used in ductile iron conforming to ASTM A 536 Grade 65-45-12 or equivalent.  All exterior ferrous surfaces shall be coated with non-bleeding coal tar epoxy and all interior ferrous surfaces shall be coated with liquid epoxy (containing no coal tar), as specified of MWA. The total dry film thickness shall not be less than 200 microns.

  4. Rubber rings
                      For mechanical couplings, expansion joint and dismantling joint shall rubber “NBR” or “EPDM” conform to BS 2494 “Elastomeric Joint Rings for Pipe work and Pipelines”, Hardness range (IRHD) 66-75 or JIS K 6353 “Rubber Goods for Water Works Service, Class 1 A, Hardness Hs 70±5” or equivalent

  5. Bolts and nuts
                      For mechanical couplings, expansion joint and dismantling joint shall conform to ASTM A 307 “Carbon steel bolts and studs, 60,000 PSI tensile strength, grade B”, or TIS 171 “Bolts, screws, nuts and studs (general data), class 4.6”, and shall be hot-dipped galvanized. The length of bolt shall be as designed by the manufacturer.
